This year poster girl for the cross cultural globalization of Hip Hop ( and one of our favorites) has had an incredible ride from #1 club hit to collaborating with Jay Z, Lil’ Wayne, Santogold and othersMIA is not only nominated for a Brit Award but a Grammy for her album Kala and an Oscar for Slum Dog Millionaire. As the only western public figure who is Tamil, she uses this interview with Tavis Smiley to give people a brief explanation of the Genocide in Sri Lanka and why its not being covered in western media. She also goes on to give a nice explanation to her song “Paper Planes” which has come under fire for being pro-gun, pro-terrorist, and a number of other reasons.
