East 4th Sessions: La Melodia

One of our favorite European groups right now is La Melodia, straight out of Eindhoven. Despite the singular-sounding name, La Melodia is a duo, MC Melodee and producer/DJ I.N.T, that delivers raw, yet warm and soulful Hip Hop from the Netherlands.
Melodee and I.N.T., now living in Amsterdam, met in Eindhoven, where they grew up under the smoke of the Philips factories. Hip Hop heads in this industrial city live by a “do-it-yourself” mentality; creating their own sound system, squat parties and record store. It was in the context of that underground atmosphere that I.N.T. developed his DJ and production skills, and Melodee first stepped on the stage.
For the next installment of the East 4th Sessions we had a chance to sit down with La Melodia, while they were in NYC for CMJ, to hear about their influences and background. After a year touring the globe, and a recent stop in Austin for SXSW, the duo is set to release their new single this week. Check out “Chemistry / Working on It” out now on one of our favorite stateside labels, Record Breakin.
